Quadruple slider card tutorial feat. Neat and Tangled

Hi Everyone,

I have a bit of a treat for you today! ;o) I have recently posted a few quadruple slider cards on my Instagram account, and a few of you asked for a tutorial. And, since there is a competition for a tutorial over at the Neat & Tangled blog at the moment, I decided to kill two crafty birds with one stone (or one pair of scissors), and voila!

Here's the card we're going to make today:

The quadruple slider card is really fun to make, and even more fun to play with! It will be hard for you to part with it, I can assure you ;o) It does take a bit of time to construct, especially when it's your first attempt, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to whip one up in no time, I promise!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED for the slider mechanism itself:
  • 1 sheet of 12'' by 12'' cardstock or 2 sheets of 8,5'' by 11'' cardstock (if you have other dimensions of cardstock - just see below what pieces you will need)
  • scissors
  • a pencil
  • strong double sided tape
  • double sided foam tape
  • a piece of soft plastic (I use ziplock freezer bags) - for the dimensions I use, you'll need two pieces roughly 2 3/4'' wide and circa 6'' long
  • patterned paper and/or stamps/stencils to embellish
YOU'LL NEED TO CUT YOUR CARDSTOCK INTO THE FOLLOWING PIECES:
  • 1 panel of 4 1/4" square (front panel)
  • 2 panels of 4" square ("inside" panels)
  • 2 panels of 3 3/4" square (slider mechanism)
  • 4 panels of 4" by 2 1/2" (slider flaps)
If you would like to ensure that you manage to cut all these pieces out of one sheet of 12" by 12" cardstock, or two sheets of 8,5" by 11" cardstock, you can find my suggested guidelines here (click to view PDFs):

12" by 12" sheet

8,5" by 11" sheet

You can find the full tutorial video below. The video is quite long, but I wanted to make sure that I cover not only the construction of the slider itself - I also added some tips and ideas, and there's even a blooper at the very end!

I hope you enjoy my very first tutorial video - please be kind and understanding, I know it's not perfect, but we all have to start somewhere, right?! :o)

Here are some more photos of the card:

And, before I go, please notice how I amended the stamps for my design needs, using the masking technique. I wanted to have the girl clown on my front panel, but I wanted her to hold the banner with the sentiment the way that the strong man would:

I am entering the card into the following challenges:

SSS Work It Wednesday Challenge - Favourite Stamping Technique (masking and one layer)

If you decide to make one of these, and you will share your card on Instagram, please feel free to tag me (@handmadebymirella), so I can see your creations - I'd love to check them out!

In case of any questions - do comment under this post, or under the YouTube video. I will do my best to help!

Have a great day,

Mirella

MFT Card Design Superstar 2018 - Innovation Master - Quadruple slider card

Hello Everyone,

Today, I am sharing with you my second and last entry to the MFT Card Design Superstar 2018 contest. There are three categories one can enter, but I won't have the time to enter the third one, which is Colouring Virtuoso. In fairness, my colouring skills are rather average, so maybe I'll wait another year and practise some more, before I attempt that category :o)

I love interactive cards, and whilst I don't have a lot of time for these recently (most of the time they do take quite a while to make!), I decided to try making another quadruple slider card for the purpose of the contest. Plus, let's just say that I promised one of these to someone for their very special birthday, so I kind of killed two birds with one crafty stone ;o)

This post will be rather photo heavy, so please bear with me! To get you started, here's a video showing what a quadruple slider card looks like:

And here are some photos, with close ups:

*Note: "Sto lat"  - literal translation "A hundred years" is one of the ways to say "Happy Birthday" in Polish. Yes, we wish the birthday boy or girl a hundred years of life!*

As you can see, the card is very "rainbow heavy", but what can I say - I love the rainbow theme on cards!

These cute bears were absolutely perfect for this project, and I love how the "Surprise" and "So much cake, so little room" sentiments show when the slider portion is folded - it gives the hint that there might be something hidden there! :o)

On the left side, where there are gifts and a lot of empty space, is where I'm going to write some of the wishes. The remainder will go on the back.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. The feature I am most proud of is that the sliding panels correlate colour-wise with the front panel - have you noticed that? It's the little things, eh? :o) Also, each of the sliding panels has a golden element to it - I tried to keep that consistent also, as well as the whole colouring of the images. Truth be told, I am even happy with my colouring of the images - and that's not something I can say very often!

I am still hesitating whether or not I should embellish the front panel with some glitter/glossy accents, gems/sequins, etc, but for now I decided to keep it simple, and see what I come up in the coming weeks. What would you do?

I am entering the card into the following challenges:
MFT 2018 Card Design Superstar - Innovation Master
SSS Wednesday Challenge - Pop it up (lots of foam tape between the layers of this slider!)
SSS Work It Wednesday Challenge - Favourite Stamping Technique (one layer with options of fussy cutting)

So there you have it! I will be working on making a tutorial for the quadruple slider card soon, as a few of you asked for it recently, but at the moment I am really a bit short for time. I'll do my best in the coming weeks!

Have a great week ahead,

Mirella

MFT Card Design Superstar 2018 - Clean and Simple Genius

Hello Everyone,

I am sure most of you are familiar with the annual MFT Card Design Superstar contest? If you are not, and you like creating with MFT products, check out the details here

Truth be told, I have never entered this contest before. I don't consider myself a "superstar", and maybe it's truly this title itself that intimidates me... However, this year, I decided to give it a go. At the end of the day, I lose nothing by entering, right? :o)

I have been practising the CAS (Clean And Simple) style for a while now, and whilst I don't always find myself creating in this style, I have enjoyed the process of trying it out and challenging myself, and I feel that a few of my most recent attempts were pretty decent. I am no longer petrified of the white space, ha! Therefore, against all odds, this is the category I am entering!

And here's the card I made:

I love the colours (which were inspired by my daughter's Duplo blocks!), the texture, the slight bit of dimension, and I am so super proud of myself for placing the little heart and the little bird within the letters "O" - doesn't this little birdie look super cosy there? And this idea goes so well with the theme of the card, which is "New Home"!

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Wish me luck!

Have a great day,

Mirella
